How do I become a driver?
How to Become a Coastal Rides Driver
Coastal Rides is a locally owned ride-hailing service serving communities across British Columbia, including the Sunshine Coast, Comox Valley, Campbell River, Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Tofino, Ucluelet, Fort St. John, Squamish, and more. We're always looking for reliable, community-minded drivers who want flexible work and the ability to earn on their own schedule.
What You’ll Do
As a Coastal Rides driver, you’ll use the driver app to connect with riders in your area. You decide when you’re available, accept ride requests, and get paid regularly based on completed trips, tips, and commissions.
Basic Requirements
To qualify as a driver, you’ll need the following:
- A valid British Columbia driver’s licence (Class 1, 2, or 4). If you currently have a Class 5 licence and want to drive passengers, you’ll need to upgrade to Class 4.
- A recent driver’s abstract (N-Print).
- A criminal record check. You’ll receive instructions for this during onboarding.
- A vehicle that meets requirements: Less than 10 years old, commercially inspected, registered, and insured.
- A current commercial vehicle inspection certificate.
Most drivers use their own vehicle, though occasionally company vehicles may be available in select communities.
How the Process Works
- Apply Online: Complete the application form and upload your documents (licence, vehicle details, etc.).
- Get Set Up: Complete onboarding, including insurance verification, vehicle inspection, and orientation on how Coastal Rides works.
- Start Driving: Once approved, log into the driver app and begin accepting rides at times that suit you.
